Q: I came up with February 30th. What do I do now?

A: Don't be dismayed, February's been a trouble-maker since way back. Every good formula needs an exception and what better month than February to provide ours. If you've come up with a day that's non-existent, just match it up to where it would fall on the calendar in the following month. So, February 30th would be March 2nd. Leap years will be another story, but we think you've got the hang of it.

Q: Our birthdays are right next to each other. Which one's our Middleday?

A: Actually, neither. You're both far too busy for your Middleday now; that's why the formula's got another exception. Although most people celebrate their near Middleday as their primary Middleday, you are entitled to celebrate your far Middleday when things are a little less hectic. Simply use the formula to calculate as usual, but add six to your month total if it's six or less. Subtract six from your month total if it's more than six.

Q: What if our birthday's the same day?

A: As in the last question, you are entitled to celebrate your far Middleday when things are a whole lot less hectic. Add six to your birth month if it's six or less. Subtract six if it's more than six. (If you end up with June 31st, feel free to put the February Rule into effect.)

Q: I counted on an actual calendar. Don't some people actually have two days in the middle?

A: Yeah, so? (Choosing just one is where the Middleday formula comes in handy.)

Q: Our birthdays are too close. Can't we have a Middleday that's farther away, too?

A: Sure, go ahead. You can use your far Middleday, too. Just add or subtract six to your month as in the examples above.

Q: One question: Why?

A: Two answers: 1) We don't know. And 2) Because anything that gives us all a reason to share a little joy is good enough for us.
